Girls for Leaders: Empowering Girls to Lead and Thrive
Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, make informed decisions, and become a leader in her community. Through its Girls for Leaders programme, CIFORD Kenya works to empower adolescent girls with the knowledge, confidence, leadership skills, and mentorship they need to build a brighter future.
The programme supports girls in underserved communities by promoting leadership development, life skills, girls’ rights, education, personal safety, and positive decision-making. Through community engagement and mentorship, we aim to nurture a generation of confident young women who can influence positive change in their families and communities.
About the Girls for Leaders Programme
Girls for Leaders is a girls’ empowerment initiative of CIFORD Kenya that seeks to strengthen the capacity of adolescent girls and young women to become confident, informed, and responsible leaders.
Girls in rural and underserved communities may face challenges such as limited access to mentorship, gender inequality, harmful cultural practices, and barriers to education and participation in decision-making.
Our programme addresses these challenges through leadership training, mentorship seminars, life-skills development, rights awareness, and community-based initiatives. We also engage families, community leaders, and development partners to help create safer and more supportive environments for girls.
CIFORD Kenya works with communities across Meru, Isiolo, and Tharaka Nithi counties, supporting initiatives that promote girls’ empowerment, protection, and participation in community development.
Our Key Focus Areas
Girls’ Leadership Development
We equip girls with practical leadership, communication, teamwork, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills. These skills help them express their ideas, set goals, and take an active role in shaping their futures.
Mentorship for Girls
Through mentorship sessions and seminars, girls can learn from positive role models, discuss the challenges they face, explore career opportunities, and develop confidence in their abilities.
Life Skills and Personal Development
We promote goal-setting, self-awareness, problem-solving, healthy relationships, and informed decision-making to help girls navigate adolescence and prepare for adulthood.
Girls’ Rights and Protection
We promote awareness of girls’ rights, child protection, personal safety, and the importance of preventing harmful practices and gender-based violence.
Why Girls’ Leadership Matters
Empowering girls is essential to building inclusive, resilient, and thriving communities. When girls have access to mentorship, education, leadership opportunities, and reliable information, they are better equipped to make informed decisions and contribute to society.
Girls for Leaders seeks to:
- Build confidence and leadership capacity among adolescent girls.
- Encourage girls to remain engaged in education and pursue their ambitions.
- Strengthen knowledge of rights, protection, and personal safety.
- Connect girls with mentors and positive role models.
- Encourage girls’ participation in community decision-making.
- Promote community support for girls’ development and well-being.
