Empowering Young Mothers: CIFORD Kenya Launches 2025 Vocational Training Program
The Young Mothers’ Orientation Meeting at CIFORD Kenya Centre marked the beginning of an inspiring journey for a group of determined young women. Selected from different communities, these young mothers—most of them teenagers—are embarking on a life-changing experience through vocational training programs in tailoring, hairdressing, beadmaking, and beauty therapy.
This initiative, implemented by CIFORD Kenya, aims to equip them with practical skills to enable them to generate income, support their children, and regain their confidence in a society where they often face stigma, economic hardships, and health challenges.

Overcoming Challenges Through Skills Development
Teen motherhood comes with immense struggles, including societal discrimination, financial instability, and limited access to education and healthcare. Many of these young mothers have faced rejection from their families and communities, making it difficult to provide for themselves and their children.

CIFORD Kenya recognizes these challenges and has stepped in to offer a solution through skill-based training. By equipping young mothers with hands-on vocational skills, they gain an opportunity to secure a livelihood, regain dignity, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty.
According to CIFORD Kenya’s Executive Director,, “We believe in empowering young mothers to become self-reliant. They have faced so many difficulties, but through these trainings, they can transform their lives and the lives of their children.”
A Glimpse into the Training Programs
The training, which officially began in early 2025, will run for several months, with expert trainers guiding the young mothers through different courses:
- Tailoring: Participants will learn sewing techniques, garment-making, and design skills to start their own businesses or seek employment in the fashion industry.
- Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy: With a growing demand for beauty services, young mothers will gain hairstyling, skincare, and makeup application skills to establish beauty ventures.
- Beadmaking: This traditional craft will allow them to create unique jewelry pieces, providing an opportunity for self-employment and cultural expression.
For many of these young mothers, this program offers a second chance in life. One of the participants, 17-year-old Faith Nkirote, shared her excitement: “I dropped out of school when I became pregnant, and life has not been easy. People judged me, and I had no way of supporting myself. Now, I have hope. I want to learn tailoring and start my own shop.”

Community Support and Future Prospects
CIFORD Kenya is committed to ensuring that these young mothers not only acquire skills but also receive mentorship and support as they transition into self-reliance. The organization is working closely with local leaders, businesses, and well-wishers to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the trainees.
Another beneficiary, Beatrice Kendi, expressed her gratitude: “This program is a blessing. I want to perfect my beadmaking skills and sell my work both locally and internationally. I am grateful to CIFORD for believing in us.”

As the young mothers progress in their training, CIFORD Kenya remains steadfast in its mission to uplift and empower vulnerable women in society. Through such programs, the organization continues to create real change, proving that with the right support, young mothers can build a brighter future for themselves and their children.
