TRACES OF HOPE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Ann Mwari, a proud mother of six in her late 30s from Cheranga Village, Tigania West Constituency in Meru County. She is a member of Cheranga women self-help group.  Her commitment, dedication and passion to unleash her potential through their group is quiet promising. Her journey started 2 years ago when she made a bold move to join colleague women in order to work together by bettering one another.

Her proudest moment in their self-help group is when CIFORD-KENYA started working with them from early the year 2019. By engaging the members through weekly trainings in matters agriculture and community health, conducted by Field Officers who not only empowers them through the trainings but also goes a notch higher by visiting them in their homes through door to door visits.

‘’It is through the trainings that I was enlightened on kitchen gardening techniques and the importance of having a vegetable garden within the compound as a woman. I was challenged enough by the Officer and thus I made a step to invest my efforts in my garden, today I don’t buy vegetables to feed my family, all I need to spend on are the ingredients.’’

The jovial Ann hinted to the Ciford Officer who had called on her at home.

Today, Ann has gained more skills in agriculture and the courage to share all the ideas with the community that she tapped from CIFORD-Kenya trainings. She finally concluded that even as the world grapples with the pandemic that is threatening humanity globally, she has a reason to smile since she is able to have something to bite on with her family from her small garden with indigenous food crops.

Ann  Says “ I am thankful to CIFORD as I am among the women in the rural communities who CIFORD has  empowered and  transformed their lives through sustainable  farming Methods . We are so hopeful that we will continue benefiting from this program and bring hope to the world”
