A mother of three had a passion for agriculture as a way of supplementing her unstable husband’s income by ensuring that all her three kids acquire a formal education. This passion wasn’t achievable due to unreliable and erratic rainfall pattern of  Muthara location where she lives with her family. The hard work put in their farm does not yield much due to crop failure.

The water scarcity is a big problem in the community and The idea of quitting farming to focus on family chores as a housewife was a bold decision with her husband also unemployed, until together with her friends they formed  Mwendwa Rii women group who requested CIFORD for partnership. This has helped her learn a lot and benefitted from CIFORDs programme on women empowerment, community health promotion, and sustainable agriculture; her breakthrough came when she was one of the women who benefited from the water tanks project supported by the Soroptimist International Great Britain &Ireland together with  Child.org.

Colleta has collected the rainwater but due to continued dry spell after the water finished from the water tank she requests a donkey cart to bring the water. “ I am proud of my water tank as I am assured of clean water and I never waste time walking in search of water “

Colletta Said “The water tank has been of great help as I can now use a donkey cart to pour the water and store it in the water tank. I am using the water for my kitchen gardening’. “ I don’t go to buy the vegetables and other food as I used to go before, I get from my garden and even neighbors come to buy. This is a source of added income for my family. Thank you for supporting me to have the water tank;” Colletta continued.  Water availability at Colletta’s homestead has made it be a training venue for the group members during training for different Bio-Intensive agriculture training like preparing compost making which is later used by all other group members to support their kitchen gardens.
